FPT, US firm link up to expand intranets

FPT Company under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment
has signed an agreement with 3COM of the US to develop intranets in
Vietnam.

FPT will act as a distributor for 3COM’s net packages and join it in a
project to develop net technology in Vietnam.

Information experts say 60% of Vietnam’s personal computers are linked
to intranets and it is believed that by 2000 the information technology
sector could earn from 700 million to 1 billion USD annually through
intranets.

FPT has installed half Vietnam’s intranets, including those for  banking
and national security. FPT has more than 6000 users on its nets.
