(TOM) This was quite a site. My first impression was the shear size of this place. It was acres. The place we are standing right now is where the barracks once stood. None of the barracks are left, but many of the other buildings are. We were free to just walk around, and go whereever. We saw the cells, the torture rooms, the ovens, and the forest with hundreds of graves, each marked with a tall slim wood pole. Its hard to really describe, something that must be experienced first hand. On a brighter note, on the way I got my first taste of the famed German autobahn. Keeping in mind that Jana's car is no speed demon, it was still fun. There weren't many places that we could drive unlimited speed, there was usually a speed limit. What I remember most was just constantly changing speed. We would speed up, and then have to slow down, I really had to pay attention. It was a lot different than the interstate here where you can press the cruise control button and drive three states without touching a pedal. |
