Surveyor is a measurement infrastructure that runs on Internet2 sites.

The WAIL website states, "This 70 node GPS enabled infrastructure is globally distributed and was originally deployed for delay and loss monitoring. We are in the process of enhancing Surveyor to make it more general purpose and hope to have it back on line [in the near future]".

Once this infrustructure is up and running with a new operating system along with the latest version of Scriptroute the nodes would be available for network measurement testing.

The goal this past year was to get the infrastructure up and running. This goal can be broken down into many distinct phases:
  • Choosing the new operating system.
  • Installing scriptroute on the operating system.
  • Writing a new driver to interact with the GPS card.
  • Ensuring this system is secure.
  • Creating an image of the system as created from the previous four steps.
  • Installing the newly chosen operating system over the currently running system remotely.

  • None of these steps have proven to be trivial and few have been completed at this time.
