Vietnam HCMC Bans Party Members From Buying Company Shares
Hanoi (AP-Dow Jones)--The Ho Chi Minh City Communist Party (CP) has banned
local Communist Party Members from taking shares in private companies, and
the Hanoi Communist Party is drafting similar rules, a Hanoi CP official said
Saturday.
'We are preparing it and it will follow the same policy,' the official said.
Document No 15/KH-TU issued on July 21, 1997 by the HCMC Committee bans party
members their spouses and dependent children from setting up or investing in
private enterprises, limited companies or joint stock companies.
However the party members may run family businesses or invest in, or buy
bonds from state-owed enterprises.
Party members already involved in private businesses must reduce their shares
to below a 30% stake either by selling them to their employees or to a
state-owned enterprise, within a year of notification by the party.
Members who break the rules will be expelled from the party, the HCMC rules
say.
