HA NOI LAYS OUT HOUSING DEVELOPMENT FOR 2000 AND
                                    2010

Ha Noi, Aug. 22 (VNA) -- A town plan on housing
development in Ha
Noi for next year and through 2010 has been unveiled.

Under the plan, Ha Noi will have 648,000 more sq.m. of
floor space by
next year. In the immediate future, the city will detail
14 licensed projects
to build residential quarters on a total area of 529.48 ha
in Cau Giay,
Hai Ba Trung, Ba Dinh and Thanh Xuan precincts, Tu Liem
and Thanh
             Tri districts.

Once these projects are completed, they will contribute
1,746,430 sq.
             m. of floor space to the city's housing fund.

Ha Noi has also developed nine projects to build
2,566,740 sq.m. of
housing space on an area of 308.87 ha. These projects have
had
investors registered and are awaiting investment licences.

Apart from the 23 above-said projects, Ha Noi plans to
develop
concentrated residential areas. About 23 sites with
acreages ranging
from 3 to 100 ha each have been eyed by the Ha Noi chief
architect.
The areas scatter in Thanh Xuan precinct (27.8 ha), in Cau
Giay
precinct (25 ha), and three places totalling 9 ha in Tay
Ho precinct.
Other sites are in suburban districts of Tu Liem (32.5
ha), Thanh Tri (24
ha) and Gia Lam (69.37 ha).

The plan aims to provide 3.5 million sq.m. of housing
space.

Ha Noi will also upgrade and even rebuild old
residential quarters in
the inner city, including the Kim Lien and Giang Vo areas.
The
upgrading and expansion of private houses are also
included in the
             town development plan.

To achieve the housing target from now to 2010, Ha Noi
will give
             priorities to implement concentrated construction
projects, create
favourable conditions for units to mobilize investment for
housing
             construction, reform administration in architectural
planning
             management.

Another plan to regulate new building before next year
has been
drafted by the Ha Noi chief architect's office to restore
order to the
current "chaotic, haphazard architectural fashion" of the
nation's capital.

The plan will give the capital a better architectural
face by putting all
State administrative offices in the city and district
offices in ward
             administrative areas.

The head representative offices of foreign
organizations and
companies are to be located on the city's main roads.

Meanwhile, all universities and training colleges are
to be
concentrated in Ha Noi's outlying areas, on Giai Phong
road, which is
part of National Highway No.1, on Nguyen Trai road in the
south-western part of Ha Noi, and in Trau Quy commune, Gia
Lam
             district.

The draft plan adds that all scientific research
centres will remain in
Ha Noi districts and in Nghia Do township near Thang Long
bridge in
             the capital's northern suburbs.

Besides arrangements, health care centres are to be
situated in
some of the capital's streets, but specialized hospitals
will be located in
designated areas in the city's outlying northern districts
of Gia Lam and
Soc Son. Meanwhile a national sports complex is proposed
to be built
in the city's northern district of Tu Liem.--VNA
