I over slept and can't decide if I should arrive late at Team Lab or go back to sleep.
Hint: Do you want reduced credit for this lab or no credit.
While we discourage attending team labs other than the one you are enrolled in, we have been known to make exceptions to allow a student to make up a lab during a later session.
Best advice: Get to lab as quickly as possible and ask if you can attend a later lab that day to get full credit. If that is not possible, then stay for lab and accept reduced credit for that lab.
I am expecting an important phone call regarding scheduling a job interview. I really want to get this job and am worried that if I don't leave my phone on I will miss the call and not get the interview.
Should I leave my phone on and hope it doesn't ring and cause me to lose points in the team lab or turn it off and risk missing the call?
We can not imagine an employer, for a job any student would want, not being reasonable enough to leave a message and allow the potential interviewee to call back.
In fact, we know of examples where the person was offered a job based on their handling of a similar situation when the employer discovered that the person took their current obligations seriously enough to not interrupt them for something that could wait until they had a break.
Best advice: Turn the phone off and check your messages after class.
My mom is going in the hospital and I need to keep my phone on in case my family calls to give me news about her care.
Should I leave my phone on and hope it doesn't ring and cause me to lose points in the team lab or turn it off and risk missing the call?
If there is something that you must do to assist your mother during her hospitalization, you must go there and be there and not be in Team lab. Missing credit for a Team Lab is not as important as doing what you can for your mother or other close persons.
If there is nothing you can do from here and you decide to attend your classes, then it is important to be present at those classes and do your best work without disruption.
Best advice: If you are able to attend Team Lab, tell your family when your lab ends and ask them to call you then. Also, turn your phone off and call or check for a message after class.
A possible exception would be if there was something you could do for your mother from a phone call. In that case, inform the instructor of the situation, set your phone to silent, answer the call [if it occurs] in the hallway. You should also accept reduced credit for missing a portion of that Team Lab or makeup the Team Lab during a later session.
I'm a member of a student organization that will be out of town during my Team Lab session.
When can I make up the Team Lab?
In general: No, there is no way to make up a missed Team Lab except by attending a different Team Lab during the same week. Ask for permission first.
However, if several students will miss the same Team Lab, we will at our discretion, schedule a make-up lab for that week's Team Lab. To have our best consideration of such requests, be sure to email the course coordinator of any expected Team Lab absences as soon as possible and provide documentation (letter from Professor or Coach) of your participation and related travel dates and times for the event.
