Re: China & Vietnam
Hello folks,
I tend to agree with anh Huy and Lam that China is
playing the card "giuo+ng ddo^ng ki'ch ta^y." For a first
time in modern China's history, the new and young generation
of Chinese leadership has no or little connection with the
Long March of Mao. In the eyes of the mass population, they
are no heroes. They are thus under pressure to create a an
image of nationalism. And, the best way of doing this is by
showing that they are "tough guys" by (i) harassing
neighbours in which Vietnam is one of their favourite
targets, and (ii) becoming aggressive and assertive with
traditional powers like the US (over human rights issue) and
the UK (over Hong Kong).
In the long term, SEA countries will experience more
bullying behaviors from China. There is no question that SEA
countries will be rich, but they should also unite to counter
against this bully fellow. It is needless to say that Vietnam
should become rich and hence can modernise her defence force.
