Re: Re: Re: The Japanese
Hi all,
I would like to contribute to the discussion on Japan in WWII in Vietnam
by being informative and based on factual analysis. This will benefit
everyone.
(1) The Japanese delegation who came to Vietnam to make the documentaries
was from the film company NHK. NHK made the film in 1994. Also many Japanese
business people came to see the historical archive of Vo An Ninh when they
visit and work in Vietnam. They were all moved by the terrible pictures
they saw. Many apologised for what happened.
(2) A comprehensive study of the war period 1940-145 and its effect was
jointly conducted by a team of Vietnamese and Japanese historians
recently. The result of the study has been published last year in one of
the journal in Vietnam. The Vietnam-Japan study includes Prof. Van Tao,
Yuuji Sano, Minami Yoshizawa..
A short version of the report was published in the reference below :
Gs Van Tao - Su+. tha^.t li.ch su+? ve^` na.n ddo'i na(m 1945 o+? Vie^.t Nam
Ta.p chi' Khoa ho.c xa~ ho^.i, So^' 27, 1-96, 1996, trang 71-79.
Vie^.n Khoa ho.c xa~ ho^.i ta.i Tp Ho Chi Minh.
A comprehensive survey of all provinces in Northern Vietnam in each
district with the rate of death averaged over the region. Using the
French "Annuaire statistique de l'Indochine 1943-1945" to get the
population of 13,156,300 people and the low end of the average death rate
of 15%, the estimated death is about 2 millions people.
This reference should be consulted as it tells a lot of statistics and
some horror stories from both surviving Vietnamese and former Japanese
officials working in Vietnam at that time.
I hope this is fairly factual informative to the recent thread on this
subject.
I don't think Vietnam at the moment and Vietnamese people ask for
compassion or compensation from Japan. They only want to help Japan to
know the truth and to consolidate the friendship between the people in
the future generation. This will help Japan to be at peace with itself
and to know what it was, what it is both within and without its soul in
the context of Asian histories.
Cheers,
Hiep Nguyen
