Dire Straits
Hi Lam,
> "Once upon a time in the west" also sounds like a song of Dire Straits.
> If any DS fan there?
You can count me in. I used to like Dire Straits a lot, and I really mean
it. I haven't been listening to Mark Knofler and Co. for a few years,
but I think I still love his trademark guitar sound. His playing is
very laid-back, romantic without a bit of self-indulgence. The songs
are well-crafted and always enjoyable. The mentioned song comes from
the second, relatively unknown album entitled "Communique"; in fact,
it is the opening song, and also the only my big favourite from the
album. But it has nothing whatsoever to do with the Western movie
bearing the same title.
If you never heard anything from Dire Straits, run to the local music
store and check them out immediately. It's not kind of challenging
music (the stuffs I'm into now), but perfect for intelligent
listening, either individually or in a cosy gathering with your best
friends. My beloved songs include "Telegraph Road", "Romeo and
Juliet" (no, not that famous tune!), "Sultans of Swing", "Private
Investigation" and "Your Last Trick". Recommended albums: "Money for Nothing"
'88 (this is a compilation of their major works), "Alchemy" '84 (a perfect
live album!), "Love Over Gold" '82, and of course, "Brothers in Arms" '85.
These albums should be accessible anywhere in the world.
For the satisfaction of Hungarian people, I would also add that Mark
Knofler's ancestors were Hungarian, a little fact that not many people
know (or don't care)!
`` Now look at them yo-yo's that's the way you do it
You play the guitar on the MTV
That ain't workin' that's the way you do it
Money for nothin' and chicks for free ''
(Money for Nothing, a hymn for people who hate the MTV!)
Enjoy the music!
