Mr. Le Dinh Chinh appointed chief coach of Vietnamese football team

Mr. Le Dinh Chinh has been appointed chief coach of the Vietnamese
football team, according to a recent decision of the Minister in Charge of
Youth and Sport Ha Quang Du. Chief coach Le Dinh Chinh and the national
football team left for Beijing on June 17 to play the final match of the
team in the World Cup '98 qualifying round versus China. 

Accident on Ngoan Muc Pass

At 5:00 p.m. on June 11, in the area of Ngoan Muc Pass on National Highway
27 in Lam Son Commune, Ninh Son District, Ninh Thuan Province, a coach
with license plate number 86H-0029 running from Dalat, Lam Dong to Ninh
Thuan lost its brakes, skidding on the road. However, all passengers on
board and the driver rapidly got off, before the coach caught fire. 

36 students to take training course in South Korea

At the invitation of the principal of the South Korean Kyungnam
University, 36 vocational students of HCMC will take part in a six-week
training course at the university (from June 30 to August 10). These
include 13 students of Ly Tu Trong School, 11 of HCMC Industrial
Technology School, seven of District 3 Vocational School, and five of
Viet-Han Friendship School. They will be trained in mechanics, electricity
and informatics. 

Nortel offers scholarships

Canadian Nortel Technology Company will provide at least 10 scholarships
to poor students of Can Tho University majoring in electronics and
informatics during the school year 1998-1999, Prof. Vo Tong Xuan told the
Daily after the signing ceremony on June 13 between the Board of
Principals of Can Tho University, and Dr. Nguyen Huu Le, director of the
above company. 

The scholarships, worth VND1 million each, will also be provided to
electronics and informatics majors of Hanoi Polytechnic College and HCMC
College of Natural Sciences. According to Prof. Xuan, a scholarship fund
of US$15,000 will be set up in each of these schools; its interest will be
used not only for scholarships, but also for sponsoring students'
graduation theses and studies on the recommendation of the school. 

The professor also said from July this year, Nortel Technology Company
will set up a fund for electronics and informatics research in seven
colleges and universities: HCMC College of Natural Sciences, HCMC
Technology College, Danang University, Danang Polytechnic College, Hanoi
Polytechnic College, and Can Tho University.
