Computer Systems Lab Documentation : Frequently Asked Questions : Electronic Mail

1.2.1 How do I forward my mail?

Your mail can be forwarded to an address outside CS by using a .forward file. Put the address to which your mail should be forwarded into a file called .forward in your public/ directory.

On UNIX systems:

UNIX users should call this file ~/public/.forward.
Note: For security reasons, the .forward file must not be writable by any other user. Use the command
chmod 644 .forward to set the Unix permisions.

On Windows NT systems:

NT users should put the file in U:\public\.forward.
Note: For security reasons, the .forward file must not be writable by any other user. Right-click and use the Properties menu to set the read-only attribute for the file, or use the command attrib +R .forward in a console window.
