Tutorial 1 -- Mistake: In last case [K3, K2, K1], if S intersect K3 is empty, then action S gives K3 union (S intersect K2) and action S + c1 give the SAME! So we are indifferent between the two.
Tutorial 2 -- To prove an action is dominated: need to show in ALL cases (combinations of other players' strategies), another action gives better payoff than this one. To prove an action is NOT dominated: need to show it gives strictly better payoff than ALL other actions in SOME situations (maybe different for different actions).
Tutorial 3 -- To find / prove NE: 1) state the utility functions (if they are not given); 2) maximize the functions seperately (if they are different): note they may be interior solution or boundary solution; 3) write down the best response functions; 4) set the actions equal to the best response and solve the system to get NE.
Tutorial 4 -- N/A
Tutorial 5 -- N/A
Tutorial 6 -- Midterm
Tutorial 7 -- Stable Marriage Problem is NOT relavent to the exam.
Tutorial 8 -- Weak induction: assume a pair of actions is NE in period k, prove this pair is NE in period k - 1; Strong induction: assume a pair of actions is NE in periods k, k + 1, k + 2, ... T (or infinity), prove this pair is NE in period k - 1.
Tutorial 9 -- N/A
Tutorial 10 -- For (infinitely) repeated PD games, prove the a profile is NE: 1) compute the payoff from not deviation; 2) find the OPTIMAL deviation at period ONE; 3) set the payoff without deviation to be larger than the payoff with deviation and solve for delta.
Tutorial 11 -- To find BNE: 1) treat each type of each player as a player and find her best response functions given actions of ALL types of all other players; 2) start with any guess of equilibrium and verify that they are mutual best responses.
Tutorial 12 -- To find BNE for auction: 1) guess the form of the bid as a function of the valuation of the player; 2) max expected payoff assuming OTHER players uses the guessed bidding function (the randomness comes from the valuations of the other players) by chooing the bid; 3) check that the optimal bid has the same form as the guess.
