People lost in an unfamiliar place will be happy to find BernE… if he doesn’t find them first. Using several cues (discussed in Ethnography), BernE can pick confused visitors out of a crowd. Once one of these targets gets close enough, he will introduce himself and ask if the person needs directions (people can also initiate contact if he doesn’t pick them up).

BernE is polite but also quick to the point. All his questions have a short, direct answer that will make the user feel in charge and minimize misunderstanding on both sides. If a person gives more than a simple Yes or No answer, BernE can search his catalogue of keywords to guess the meaning of the sentence, then ask if he understood correctly.
